MIRACLES CONTEST RULES 1.This is a contest for writing responding to selected images from the photographic series MIRACLES created by artist Pauline Southard, inspired by Poem lyrics of Miracles by Walt Whitman. 2. The contest is open to persons ages 15 and over. 3. Contest entries may be poetry or prose. 4. Contest entries must be in English and under 1000 words in length. 5. Contest entries must state the Author’s name, age, address, telephone number, email address, and indicate which image(s) the entry responds to. To view the images go to www.waltwhitman.org or www.ladykat.com after February 28, 2007. 6. Authors may submit more than one work for consideration. 7. Email contest entries to Karmickat@aol.com , or send by regular mail to: Lady Kat Photography 195 Hudson Avenue, Freeport NY 11520 Attn: Miracles Contest 8. All contest submissions must be emailed or postmarked no later than midnight, March 31, 2007. The Walt Whitman Birthplace retains the right to extend the entry deadline without notice. 9. By entering work in the MIRACLES Contest, the Author warrants that the submission is the AUTHOR’S OWN ORIGINAL WORK and not based, in whole or in part, on any other previously published or copyrighted work of another author; and grants permission to The Walt Whitman Birthplace and photographer Pauline Southard to display or reprint the work for publicity and promotional purposes. The Author retains all other rights to his or her work.
10. PRIZES will be awarded in two categories: Adults (ages 18 and up) and Young
Adults (ages 15 – 18). Prizes in both categories are as follows: 11. Winners will be announced, read their prize-winning work and claim their prizes at the Opening Reception for the full exhibit MIRACLES on April 22, 2007 at 1:30 PM at the Walt Whitman Birthplace. (Winners must be present to win).
